Centre the joint over the join and mark the cuff ends all the way around the jacket pipe. Make sure that the cuff over- laps the jacket pipe by at least 100 mm. Reify the joint at 45° with a lamella grinder on both sides of the slit. Then grind the upper edges of the slit. Place the steel slide under the slit and fix it with fibreglass tape. Cllean the inside and outside of the joint with a cloth moistened with alcohol and pull the joint over the main pipe. To get the right full weld penetration, mount the joint with approx. 1 mm of air between the grinded edges. Use 2 belt tighteners. Both ends of the joint are tack welded, using the hand extruder. Clean the grinded edges with a cloth moisted with alcohol. After removing the belt tighteners, the tack welds are ground till they are flush with the joint. Grind to remove the cold spots at the ends. Weld the joint in its entire lenght. Mount the collar bands right over the welding bands and tighten them manually. Mount the cables from the welding computer on to the terminals of the welding bands. If both bands are welded at the same time, mount the coupling cable to one terminal for each band. Tape the cables to the jacket so that they do not hang in the terminals during welding. The terminals of the welding bands must be fixed 4-6 mm apart. Use staples (4 mm) close to the terminals. To secure the terminals during welding, hammer the staples right into place. Shrink, with a soft gas flame, the outermost 10-12 cm of the joint. Use a blow torch with a min. head size of 50-60 mm. The flame should be blue with yellow tips. Before welding starts, the joint must be a uniform temperature at the four points marked with an arrow in the picture. If necessary, cover the joint with the white plastic bag provided once shrinking is complete. Select the correct dimension on the welding computer. Start welding by pressing OK. The welding will stop auto- matically. Check instruction manual for welding computer. Remove the collar bands when the sleeve has reached a tem- perature of approx. 50-60°C. Drill a hole in the top of the joint, approx. 50 mm from the end of the jacket pipe and approx. 180 mm from the joint end using a Ø24.5 mm plug centre bit. Leak test the joint with air at 0.2 bar and test the ends with leak finder spray. Cut off the terminals. Drill the last vent hole using a Ø24.5 mm plug centre bit. If three lots of joint foam are to be used, drill a third vent hole in the middle of the joint. Hammer the vent plug into the foam hole. Mount an appropriate number of wire holders (for standard insulation stripping of 440 mm, use qty. 2 wire holders per wire) and place them with equal spacing between the wire holders themselves and between the wire holders and the edges of the foam. The felt must be completely dry. Fasten the felt with crepe tape, so the felt remains completely closed during foaming. The joint is finished and ready for the casing to be mounted. Use extra solder paste on the alarm wire – otherwise the tin will not run through the solder connector. Clean the end of the alarm wire with a fine emery cloth. Heat the solder connector with a gas flame. Once the con- nector has been heated, ad tin on the one side. Then draw the soldering burner across the solder connector, which will cause the tin to flow all the way through the solder connector. The joint is finished and ready for the casing to be mounted. If felt is being used instead of the wire holders, start by joining the alarm wires, and then mount the felt. Mount the solder connector on the alarm wire such that the wire butts up against the stop in the middle of the solder connector. Once the joint has cooled, press the alarm wire down into the wire holders, such that the alarm wire is tight and cannot touch the steel pipe. The solder connector must be sitting clear of the wire holders. Drill a 24.5 mm hole in the position marked on the jacket pipe. Required materials: a) alarm outlet (connecting piece, connecting cable, shrink flex and foam block), b) fibreglass tape, c) earth con- nection, d) installation wire, e) mastic. The earth connection is welded on. Required tools: a) folding rule, b) marker pen, c) chamfering tool, d) drill 24.5 mm, e) drill 15-18 mm, f) universal screw spanner, g) single-head wrench 13 mm, h) gas torch, i) alcohol, j) lint-free cloth, k) plug welder, l) knife, m) drilling machine. Installation instructions – alarm outlet 1.2 Weld the connecting piece onto the jacket pipe at 250 ˚C. The connecting piece must be parallel with the jacket pipe. Check that there are two identical weld beads – one on the connecting piece and one on the jacket pipe. Chamfer the outlet hole with the chamfering tool. Pull the connecting cable through the shrink flex; the installation wire is wound around with the connecting cable. Then pull the connecting cable through the connecting piece and the foam hole until approx. 5-10 cm are visible. Pull one installation wire through the connecting piece and the foam hole. Preheat the the connecting piece and the connecting cable to approx. 65 ˚C where the shrink flex is to be mounted. Mastic is mounted as a seal between the connecting piece and the connecting cable, Make sure that there is plenty of mastic in the hole between the connecting piece and the connecting cable. Don’t forget to install the earth connection wire (yellow/ green wire) to the earth connection on the wire. (If the earth connection wire from the connecting cable is too short, the earth connection wire must be extended using installation wire.) Connect the alarm wires from the pipes to the wires from the connecting cable as shown in the alarm drawing. Don’t forget to squeeze from both sides (turn the crimp connec- tor) before the connector is soldered.
