Correct calculation ensures the best and most economical solution as well as long-term operational and maintenance savings.

When designing district energy systems, many factors must be taken into account to ensure they are both economically viable and able to reliably supply energy to consumers. Ideally, such systems should be designed by consulting engineers using advanced software to handle the complex requirements.

If you have to design a smaller project or a distribution network, you can use our isoCalc online calculation program, which offers you guidelines for the design of district heating pipes. In isoCalc you can enter your calculations and the conditions that apply to your project.

On request, the ISOPLUS Group produces technical system documentation for all delivered materials and an appropriate design for pipe trenches and control cables. Our continuous quality assurance ensures the reliability of the whole district heating network, without any complaints for many decades.

The documentation is supplied in files. Before we produce them, the required scope should be defined, as it is not possible to integrated certain chapters at a later date. In detail, the ISOPLUS documentation includes the following chapters, which can be adjusted if necessary:

  • General system, material and functional description of the ISOPLUS products
  • Technical data and dimensions of the materials/products
  • Notes on installation, storage, construction and pipe laying and the post insulation of ISOPLUS components
  • All required material certificates, factory certificates, quality certificates  and operating instructions
  • Putting into service and acceptance inspection record
  • Leak detection measurement records according to actual data, for multiple sections if necessary, determined using special methods of measurement
  • Leak detection drawings (scaled) of the leak detection system with all installed system components as a black & white copy, original (plotted) or as a PLT file
  • Casing joint records for all post-insulation work carried out by certified ISOPLUS employees
  • Actual design of the ISOPLUS pipe trench after completing the pipe laying work on the basis of detailed measurement of works planning. With all required pipe structural details for buried pre-insulated pipe systems as black/white copy, original (plot) or as PLT file
  • Pipe structural calculations as printout, based on specified parameters and divided according to the trench markings, in accordance with the guidelines for underground pre-insulated jacket pipes.

If various documents are required after a project has ended, we draw up a timetable for the implementation on request, as this is not included in our original quotation. We can also produce parts of the technical documentation, including the above-named details, upon request. The system documentation service is subject to a charge. We will be pleased to provide you with a quotation for these services.

We at ISOPLUS offer you a large number of support options during the whole process of a heat network project. With our total cost of ownership program, we are able to produce unique data, to determine the best pipe solution for your project.  This programme will soon be available in our isoConnect Digital Tools portal.

This is done by calculating heat losses on the basis of the different insulation series. A TCO calculation can provide you with a complete breakdown of the costs and helps you to set the budgets in the earliest phase of a project. For further project support, a TCO calculation provides the option of comparing two systems, whereby the costs, heat losses and payback periods are given.

ISOPLUS offers professional support and helps with a TCO calculation for financial transparency during the whole project life cycle.

Condition assessment helps you to get an overview of the status of your leak detection system. In this way, you can prevent critical faults.

An assessment begins by technicians being on site for a certain period, during which they examine each network for faults manually. They determine whether the fault requires immediate actions or whether continuous monitoring is sufficient. The specialists also check the end points manually for indications of corrosion and possible malfunctions and report these.

Following the inspection of the leak detection system and the end points on site, you receive a detailed report for each area. It highlights any faults that need urgent correction and faults that can be monitored over time. In addition, a recommended period between future inspections is given.

As each system is different with respect to its size, complexity and location, each ISOPLUS report is tailored to the specific requirements of your project. We offer this service both as a one-off and as a long-term agreement.

Regular preventive maintenance and inspection of a district heating network is necessary to maximise the life of the system and to minimise the risk of failure caused by negligence.  The main cause of damage to pre-insulated pipe systems is the penetration of moisture into the foam system which, depending on the duration and scope, can lead to total failure. There are mainly two causes for penetrating moisture and thus decreasing insulation properties and increased material wear.

On the one hand, the moisture can come from the inside. This always involves damage to the carrier pipe. This is mainly the result of poor water qualities and thus increased material impact due to corrosion, faulty welds, or overloading of the pipe system above its maximum structural design (i.e. higher temperatures). Advancing damage over times causes increased water input into the foam system and thus substantial heat loss and the spread of moisture in the system. It is always necessary to completely replace the system affected by moisture to restore the properties.

On the other hand, external damage to the outer casing, such as damage during installation or incorrect installation of joints, can have a negative impact on the insulation performance and, if not considered, can lead to failure of the whole system. Regular scheduled inspection of the integrated alarm system can prevent these system failures and detect water infiltration into the insulation foam.  ISOPLUS now offers the option of a scheduled preventive maintenance agreement to give customers the certainty that their networks are properly maintained and protected.

How can ISOPLUS help?

The details of the specific operation and maintenance agreement can be adapted to the needs of the respective customer, however, the areas that can be offered are listed in the following:

  • Six-monthly site visits to carry out a detailed check of the alarm system’s integrity
  • Six-monthly visits for visual inspection for signs of corrosion at the end points, at which the network leaves the ground
  • Six-monthly checking of operation of the network shut-off valves and reporting on it
  • In some countries we help you to compile reports on water treatment/quality
  • Six-monthly detailed inspection reports and repair recommendations
  • Access to emergency equipment in case a fault occurs in the network

Depending on the country, with ISOPLUS tool hire you receive full support for selected products and equipment and comprehensive training and certification.

ISOPLUS offers high-quality hire tools for the installation of pre-insulated ISOPLUS district heating pipes, which can vary depending on the country. They including pressing tools for connecting flexible products such as isopex pipes with a diameter of up to 160 mm and casing welding equipment for making electric weldable joints. ISOPLUS offers comprehensive use and backup support for all products and equipment.
