The geothermal project in Polling is being carried out by Erdwärme Inn GmbH & Co. KG. Founded in 2020 by the managing partners Peter Reichenspurner and Ferdinand Schmack, Erdwärme Inn is bearing both the costs and the risks of the undertaking. After the successful commissioning of the geothermal plant, in addition to the greenhouses of the Reichenspurner farm in Weiding and Tüßling for CO2-neutral vegetable production, surrounding municipalities will also be supplied with heat. This setup provides the communities with CO2-free, locally generated heat, ensuring a sustainable district heating supply for their residents.
Geothermal energy – benefits for municipalities, households, and businesses
Geothermal energy is a local resource available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It enables municipalities, households, and commercial enterprises to benefit from sustainable and long-term price-stable heat – independent of energy imports and fluctuating fuel markets.

Project figures
- Annual CO² savings of approx. 30.000 tonnes
- More than 180 GWh thermal energy per year
- 30 MW thermal output (with deep water production of 103 °C and 110 l/s, equivalent to around 3.5 billion litres of geothermal water per year, cooled down to 50 °C)
- 6 km district heating trench up to the heat transfer stations
- Supply of 30 hectares of greenhouses as well as Polling, Tüßling, Weiding, Mühldorf am Inn and further villages
- Investment volume of €65 million
- 2 years of drilling and construction
- More than 50 years of system lifetime
