The work began in the autumn of 2023 - both at the top in the castle and at the bottom in the old city centre.

The pipe was routed through the thick castle walls into a cellar under the knights’ hall. As a bat colony was in residence, which may not be disturbed, working was only possible during the period in which the animals moved to their winter quarters.

Ultimately, all challenges were overcome and the plant was commissioned as planned. It will save around 200 tonnes of CO₂ annually in the future.
Together with our partners, we are making the energy transition possible.

On 5 November 2024, the new district heat station in Hohentübingen Castle was officially opened. Achieving this was not a very easy project for the persons responsible, even though the length does not suggest any problems.
