In Kecskemét, a brand-new Biomass Heating Plant was inaugurated in 2023, marking a significant advancement in the city’s district heating system. The new facility not only enhances security in the district heating system but also provides substantial environmental benefits. The biomass heating plant has a capacity of 20+5 megawatts, resulting in a 70% reduction in gas consumption and a significant decrease in carbon dioxide emissions.

Project details

Kecskemét embraces renewable energy: District heating network expands for a sustainable future.

The commissioning of the heating plant has also enabled the industrial-scale utilization of renewable energy in the county seat. As of this heating season, consumers relying on district heating—one-third of Kecskemét’s population, approximately 40,000 residents, and 230 institutions — are supplied with heat energy derived from renewable sources.

As part of the comprehensive development, the Kecskemét district heating network has been expanded by approximately six kilometers with modern, energy-efficient backbone pipelines. This modernization further enhances the efficiency and sustainability of the city’s energy management.
